Bathroom Remodel Costs ~

I’m frequently asked by clients when previewing properties that definitely need updating or complete remodeling  …..  off the top of your head Susan, how much would it cost to remodel this bathroom? It’s not very large, do you have any idea.  Answering that question as honestly and accurately as possible is not that easy because of all the variables that are included in a remodel. However when you only have a short time to make a decision whether to buy and remodel or purchase a finished home in todays real estate market answers need to be quick!

I thought this was a terrific short and accurate cost analysis of a small bathroom remodel. Thank you Mitchell Parker.

Wow ~ Gorgeous & Water Saving

Thanks once again to SA Baxter Architectural Hardware for sharing what’s currently new and beautiful in home design features. Not only is this one of the most attractive water features I’ve seen but it’s designed to conserve water as well. A London student recently designed this conservation-friendly faucet that swirls your water into captivating geometric patterns as soon as you turn on the tap. The faucet weaves small jets of water into intricate, cross-hatched designs that look like they belong on delicate crystal glassware. The faucet head is a simple, minimalistic curve, making the designs it spouts out all the more delightful.

In addition to the faucet’s pleasing aesthetic, it also makes conserving water feel elegant and effortless. The designer, London Royal College of Art student Simin Qiu, created the faucet to use up to 15 percent less water than traditional faucets. Given the unusual and creative design and its positive impact on the environment, this fixture is anything but mainstream.

Make Up Lighting

bathroom lighting

When natural light is not possible….because you are up at the crack of dawn and the natural light is still asleep…the right light bulb is the next best thing. Selecting light bulbs may seem straightforward in theory, but finding exactly what you need can be overwhelming—especially for bathroom or vanity lighting. When choosing light bulbs for the best makeup application, be sure look for the CRI (Color Rendering Index) number on the packaging. The higher the CRI number, the closer the bulb is to providing true and natural light. For the perfect morning makeover, purchase a bulb with a CRI of 90 or higher.

Light bulbs with dimming capabilities are ideal for makeup application. The dimming switch will allow you to see what your makeup will look like in various settings, from your meeting in a brightly lit conference room to the dinner party on a lantern-lit rooftop.

Of course, getting the bulbs is only half the battle: Position the light source to shine on you directly from the front for ideal results; lighting from above or below will cast shadows that won’t let you accurately see what you are doing. So consider sconces on either side of a bathroom mirror or vanity to create even light and help you avoid major makeup mess-ups.

With the flip of a switch on your new lighting, you will be able to perfect your daily beauty routine—leaving you looking flawless every day, and in every setting.

Smart Quartz Countertops!

Activated by light and air movement, this super smart floor apparently can convert the toxins normally found in your home into harmless water and carbon dioxide. – See more at: https://furstmanproperties.com/?p=591#sthash.di4QWUKb.dpuf

A few weeks ago I wrote about a hardwood flooring that is reinventing the control of air quality in your home.  Activated by light and air movement, this super smart floor apparently can convert the toxins normally found in your home into harmless water vapor and cardon dioxide. Well I just found their counter part for the kitchen!

While I originally chose this kitchen to highlight because of the mixture of style and components, primarily the old reclaimed wood ceiling with the modern glass tiles and stainless appliances, once I began to read about the designer Sheryl Schey, a principal at White Picket Fence in Santa Monica, and her philosophies I became interested in her selection of the Silestone natural quartz counter-top she used on the island.

Silestone is composed of 94% natural quartz and is the only quartz product that provides Bacteriostatic protection. Developed by Cosentino, this protective formula incorporated into the quartz, uses the latest generation silver ions to prevent the propagation of bacteria on your counter-tops in the kitchen and bathroom. What a great idea! The product comes in a variety of colors as well as textures, polished, suede and volcano. Guaranteed, the quartz is stain, scratch, acid and impact resistant. Seems to cover all the concerns home owners have when considering what product to feature on their cabinetry in their kitchen and bathrooms.  With the cost of counter-tops being one of high ticket items in a kitchen or bath, to have the comfort of knowing your product is resistant to everyday use and doesn’t requiring regular sealing is a plus.

Flooring Options for your Bath

Gorgeous, soothing master bath.

This article from HGTV features photos of 10 different bathrooms with examples of designs and flooring types.   I loved the colors of this light grey tile, it gives the room a sophisticated, contemporary, elegant feel. Featured also in the article are examples of Pebble flooring, Exotic Marble, Various types of Ceramic Tiles, Bamboo flooring, River Rock and Concrete Tiles. Thought it was a great pictorial example of what’s out there if you are thinking of a bathroom remodel or new construction.  Also consider the option of radiant heated floors, they are economical in the long run from an energy cost stand point and cozy on the feet at night when you have to get up!

Soaking and Soothing Solutions

Always searching for ideas to complete my dream home, the pictures of the bathrooms in this article by Lisa Higgins definitely spoke to my soothing, relaxation mood.   Who wouldn’t find refuge in this outdoor private soaking room?
Room with a view…hopefully not for the neighbors…but if you owned the surrounding 25 acres this bath would be ideal. Rain or shine this room provides a beautiful setting for a luxurious soak.
Modern Bathroom by Robert Young
My favorite feature of this bathroom is the door that opens onto the deck with an outside shower feature. I have always loved homes that bring the outside in especially with an elevation. You have the transformational feeling of being in a tree house.
